No Swim! No Swim!

If Jordan had more words I think those would have been the ones coming out of his mouth this morning when we got to the pool. When we first got their I took him into a family change area to put on his swim trunks, I was already in my bathing suit from home since I figured it'd be easier (smart girl eh?) And from there I could tell it would be difficult. The look on his face as the acoustics of the pool poured into our change room took him by surprise.

Chris came with us to watch Jordan's first class.

So as I walked Jordan over to the pool side he started dragging his feet in his "no way" gesture. Our friends Lisa and baby Leia were there too. All the other kids went in with joy, but Jordan did not. Jordan clung to me like a cat in water. Wow! Once in a while he'd catch a glimpse of Chris and say "Da-Da!" and reach his arms and body towards him. Chris unfortunately had to leave the pool side, Jordan just saw him as an escape from me and the water. After that Jordan calmed down a little but he was still very timid and sometimes remembered he was supposed to be scared. But he like to float on his back and look at the fish on the ceiling with his head nuzzled in my shoulder. He did not like being on his tummy unless I also let him rest his chin on my shoulder and then I would grab his ankles and kick his feet. Jordan had more fun (being distracted) when we sang action songs so that helped. I just want him to be comfortable in the water. With the city strike last summer there were no pools for us to go to so he's not had the chance before. He loves bath and I pour water over his head and he just laughs and sputters as it falls over his face but the pool, well, that's a whole different ball game, isn't it? Only EIGHT more weeks to go, Jordan!

That sounds like quite the ordeal! At least you got cuddles in the pool!

Hmmm, none of his Auntie Chris in him then. He could come to love it as he gets the experience of being in the pool and its surroundings. I taught lots of children who started off not liking it so much but by the end, were quite content. Keep on plugging.
