A Girl On The Go: Amber McCawley
Our baby girl is charming us daily with her ridiculous cuteness. Those chubby chubby thighs, her baby cuddles and her constant 'chatter'. She shakes her head 'no' at us now and then to remind us she knows exactly what we're saying even though she doesn't have many words. On the weekend I learned that Amber can point out not only her belly button but her nose, feet and hair. That was a fun discovery.
Amber's definitely fallen in love with the park this summer and able to express herself. When it comes into view on our walk there she squeals "Yeah yeah yeah!" And on some days when we leave she will scream and make her body as stiff as a board in our arms. If you can promise her a bath on the other end she'll usually relax quite quickly but she doesn't stay mad long anyway. And baths! Miss Amber loves the water. She uses her spouted boat to collect water under the surface and dump it over her head. She will laugh as it pours over her face.
In November we'll be putting her in the new Toddler Program at Garrison Creek where Jordan's been going for the last year. We were told about the new program last spring but weren't sure we were going to use it. But to allow Chris to have writing time we decided to take two days a week. I'm trying not to think about the adjustment it will take from Amber (she is not her brother in that way!) but I know she'll grow to love it there. The caregivers are amazing and one of our favourites, Charlayne, will be moving to the Toddler room so it gives me a bit of relief to know this.
She loves her brother and giving him hugs and kisses and tackling him. Its fun to imagine who she'll grow to be. We do feel she's got a lot of adventure in her and a toughness I didn't know someone so little could have! We shall see...
As of her July doctor's appointment she's 21.5lbs although it feels like more when you carry her around.
She can walk around pretty confidentaly now. A bit of speed walking going on. Its really fun watching her try to make her legs work right after waking up.
Whenever I'm home I have the Olympic channel on and Amber will talk and point out when there are babies on TV (those pampers commercials).
I love watching her think a problem through. Because she really has the patience for it. (remember Mission Impossible: The Elastic) Over the weekend Chris was cooking with hot oil so we put the gate up at the kitchen, otherwise the sous Chef Amber gets in the way, and her reaction to the gate was great. You could tell she thought "If they could put it up then it can come down... how do I do it?" She really tried to figure it out for quite a while.
