The Countdown
We have good news! Jordan has been transferred back down to a level II care hospital. This is closer to us and is the hospital he was at before he got an infection and sent to Sick Kids.
We are so anxious to get him home... the cradle is built, the car seat is installed... now we just need our 5lb 11oz baby!
He's doing well and at this point just needs to work on his bottle feeding. We'll still work on nursing but as it takes more strength than bottles it is not priority. He has the strength to feed on the bottle for only about half his feed but is getting stronger each day. What he can't finish is ingested via his feed tube. I will spend long days at the hospital to work on this with him over the next few days. The nurses will do the same but as they have other babies to tend they may not have as much time to work with him on this. We'd love to have him home in a week and the nurses have led us to believe this may be possible!
Here are some photos I took on December 3rd.
Jordan and mommy are doing Kangaroo Care (skin to skin).
His jumper is open at the front.
Doesn't he look cozy? Him and daddy do this too.
After a good snuggle he got a diaper change and back in bed so he could feed and I could pump down the hall. At the time of this photo Jordan's IV was via his scalp. His arms and legs had already been used for IV's too much so they used the scalp. It is more secure as he can't flail it about. The IV is for the balance of his nutrition until he is up to full feeds, which until today, he wasn't.
Isn't he SO CUTE?!
Jordan is now bundled back up and his feed is started. He loves simulating eating via pacifier, notice he holds it in himself!
(the photo is grainy due to lights off and no flash)
Later that evening he's in a new outfit after a nice bath!
Then he's all tucked in for a good night's sleep...
Nighty night sweet Jordan, we love you!
