No More Shots!

On Wednesday after a good swim lesson Jordan had his double 18 month shots. The poor little fella knew what he was in for the second he walked in the office. He looked at the doctor, coming to get another kid, and started bawling. Really bawling. And he pretty much didn't stop for the rest of the appointment.

He was measured and weighed by the nurse and didn't relax at all. Then the nurse suggested I get him dressed for the most part but have his arms exposed and her and the doctor would each give a shot in each arm at the same time to get it over with. So as I'm getting Jordan ready to go he's handing me pieces of his clothing to get me to move faster and also saying "bu-bye! bu-bye!" with such urgency I felt terrible that he was still going to get the shots. Here he really thought if we went fast enough we'd make it out in time. And then the doctor walked in and Jordan's face read, "no mommy, no" and the crying resumed. It was so awful.

But two things good came of it. The doctor, who was also Jordan's NICU doctor and knows us well, said quite honestly that Jordan's a smart kid. Dr. Chisamore is a great guy and I always feel terrible that Jordan reacts the way he does with him because Chisamore never gets to see the happy Jordan! But Chisamore says, "I couldn't be in this profession if I took it personally." But he really did look me in the eye and let me know that we have a smart kid. That's okay by me. And the second good thing was I was told no more shots until he's four! I hadn't realized it. Here I thought there would be more in the fall when he turned two. YAY!

His measurements are:
length 79.6cm (31.3")
head 45.5cm
weight 10.42 kg (22.9lbs) (I think without the week of throwing up that would be higher!)
feet = huge, I need to get a stamp soon!

I remember those days. You felt so bad because you were bringing your baby somewhere where they knew they were going to get hurt but you couldn't do anything about it. Poor little guy.

I just read this aloud to Andrew! I could totally picture little, precocious Jordan trying to get the hell outta there! I don't blame him! Good storytelling!
