Nine Days Old
Little miss Amber is just plugging along! Feeding better and better each day. I get there for her 9am feed and stay right through until dinner time and in there we do about 4 feeds. She's getting stronger and more efficient. Soon she'll be as good as a full term baby.
They have left the feed tube in for now just incase she gets too tired at night to bottle feed. Amber is nursing every 4 hours now instead of every 3. This allows her to get up more strength in between feeds and up to what a full term baby would do. Feed on demand... they don't allow preemies to do this as they might just keep sleeping, missing meals and therefore becoming too lethargic to eat. But because Amber is older and stronger now she's able to stretch out in between. Which is fine by me! Jordan came home nursing every two hours!
Amber's hips are loosening up and not causing her pain anymore which is very nice to see.
Today she weighed in at 2165 grams (4.8lbs). Its the first gain since her birth of 2294 (5.1lbs). Of course most babies will lose weight in the first week. This gain is good and we hope to see bigger gains coming soon! The lowest she went down to was 2160 grams and then she stayed there for 2 days until today.
For those that have asked either through the comments or emails, mama is doing okay. Some small complications with my cesarean healing but I think we're in the clear and on the mend now. I just need to keep an eye on it. I think I'm adjusting to the night pumpings as I'm giving myself every four hours to pump instead of three allowing a bit more sleep in between. If only Jordan would sleep through a night this week! He's had hives again and more discharge from his eyes so he's waking quite irritated in the middle of the night.
Today's photos! And yes, I need to bring a camera better than my phone one of these days...
Just after a good feed... snoozer! But then I had to disturb her for a burp... poor monkey
.
All fed and tuckered out ready for a big sleep!
