MOXI - what?
Moxibustion, a traditional Chinese medical practice that involves the warming of acupuncture points, has been shown as an effective treatment to turn breech babies.
Moxibustion involves rolling the dried leaves of the mugwort plant into a cigar-shaped stick, which is then burned like a cigar. The moxibustion stick does not directly touch the skin at the acupuncture point, but is used to warm and stimulate the point.
According to an article in “The Journal of American Medicine” (JAMA) moxibustion is found to be effective in stimulating fetal movement and in correcting breech presentation.
Cindy Lim has a 90% success rate in turning babies. During treatment babies get pretty active and Sweet Pea sure did today! (she's got the hiccups right now poor girl) And some babies will turn right away and some after a few treatments. Again, its non invasive, avoids drugs or anything that might compromise keeping her in there. Because the amniotic fluid is low it was a gentle treatment because you don't want baby moving to fast without fluid to cushion. So there's that part.
Next is monitoring this wee girl. There is the simple mama checking in. I know how she moves so if she's too still I'll drink some juice and get her going. The next two more medical things that will happen is one ultra sound per week and one non-stress-test (monitor on my belly for about 30min to check baby movements are strong and constant) per week; each a few days apart so that we check on her often. We're not expecting anything bad to happen, but monitoring the situation is the best preventative for anything right! I will still see my midwife for regular appointments too of course.
Other than that I still have taken over our double bed with mounds of pillows and my Knight in Shining Armour sleeps on the sofa. He does love to fall asleep to the TV so on a small level it works for both of us right now although I wish we had a king bed to be honest!
And here's proof this all happens from a vertical position!
