Day 9 - Sleeps/Smiles/Suckles
Today when I arrived to visit wee Jordan he was all tuckered out and snoozing. This is good. Its what we want him to be doing since he's supposed to still be sleeping in the womb and growing strong. He was so cute I had to take a picture! Then I read him a Dr. Suess story. I did this quite a bit when he was in the womb and I have to say, he loves those stories just like mommy does!

Then a half hour before feeding time I held him skin to skin which he loved as much as the first time. All snuggly with me under a blanket! But then he started getting antsy and cranky and low and behold... he puked up his lunch. He's having some problems with spitting up. But hey, it was going to happen that I got spit up on me sooner or later!
So we put him back in his bed so he could eat again.
What's really interesting is that although he's fed through a tube which leads to his stomach he makes fish mouth like he's actually eating! I've noticed this 3 times now in the last two days. His brain knows that there's a connection between the two. And he loves eating time. He's always very happy and today I caught his smile!
On top of making fish mouth when eating today he grabbed my finger and pulled it to his mouth a few times! The eating process is so engrained in us. Very soon he'll start to practice feeding from me. At 32 weeks tomorrow this is when they start having the baby lay on your chest and investigate. Here's him trying to suckle my finger!
I'll also add that when I arrived I noticed his medication pole was dismantled. His IV and antibiotics have been fully stopped so there are no more tubes (other than the feed tube) poking into our little man. YAY! As well the doctor's have decided that he's ready to step down to Level 2 nursery care! They even went so far as to call our hospital of choice today to try to get him a bed. At the moment there are none, but we hope in the next couple of days one opens up. The nurse would prefer to have him stop spitting up before transferring him but in the meantime we cross our fingers that St. Jo's has room so he doesn't end up somewhere even farther from us! However, I'm just happy they feel he's that strong!
Super star Jordan!
